Columbia, MD (December 19, 2014) —Howard County’s first on-farm microbrewery, Manor Hill Brewing, today received key funding support from the Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA). Manor Hill Brewing was conceived by Randy and Mary Marriner, owners of Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia, Maryland. The Marriner’s have secured a $200,000 loan from the HCEDA to help launch the new business. The on-farm microbrewery will operate in a 7200 sq. ft. barn on the Marriner’s property in Ellicott City and becomes the latest example of agriculture innovation in Howard County. “Agriculture is a very important sector of the economy in Howard County and we are constantly looking for ways to support innovation on our farms,” said County Executive Allan Kittleman. “The HCEDA’s job is to find ways to support businesses that are committed to the county and looking for ways to create new jobs and opportunities. This project accomplishes those goals.” “We are always looking for ways to attract new businesses and to help existing businesses grow” said Lawrence F. Twele, CEO Howard County Economic Development Authority. “The Marriner’s had a great idea and we were able to step in and provide the support they needed to launch an innovative new venture.” Manor Hill Brewing expects to produce 3,000 barrels of beer annually and the farm will grow some of its own hops. The craft beer will be sold at Victoria Gastro Pub. “Howard County has been a tremendous partner and the team at HCEDA really helped us navigate this process” said Randy Marriner, Co-owner Manor Hill Brewing. Manor Hill Brewing is expected to be operational by March 2015.
