German and Scotch-Irish settlers first began building their settlements along the Catawba and South Fork Rivers in the late 1700's. Nearby, the battle of Kings Mountain, which was a turning point in the Revolutionary War was fought about 20 miles from Gastonia by these settlers. Gaston County was formed December 21, 1846 and named for Associate Supreme Court Justice William Gaston. The county seat was located north of Gastonia in Dallas, NC, where the old courthouse now serves as the hub for the Dallas Police dept when the courthouse was moved to Gastonia in 1911. Near the courthouse square is the historic County jail and the Gaston County Museum of Art and History is nearby. The work to create transformational therapies to help people live with T1D cannot—and must not—be allowed to stop because dedicated researchers lack funds. Laboratory studies that are unlocking the mysteries of T1D and accelerating progress toward a cure and prevention must continue. With the generous help of supporters like you, JDRF is pursuing a diversified, dynamic research agenda that is moving us ever closer to a world without T1D. If you live with T1D, you spend a lot of time thinking about your blood-sugar levels now and worrying about the complications that T1D may one day bring. You don’t want anyone else you love to ever know the physical, emotional and financial toll this disease takes. You want a cure. Health Care and Social Assistance comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing health care by diagnosis and treatment, providing residential care for medical and social reasons, and providing social assistance, such as counselling, welfare, child protection, community housing and food services, vocational rehabilitation and child care, to those requiring such assistance. Children’s Congress at Washington 2013 was a great social event. Hundreds of volunteers took part in helping JDRF team. The song of this congress was written by Crystal, JDRF official member. The song was “Promise to remember me” sang by all Congress participants. Children’s chorus made a great impression. The most important thing is that the goal was reached – the Artificial Pancreas was released thanks to 2013 Children’s Congress. During the Congress all participants shared their T1D stories with others and so the communication was perfect. Small kids have been diagnosed very early and their life became completely different. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. JDRF is leading the way in establishing measurement guidelines and holding itself accountable to supporters. JDRF has developed transparent organizational goals, as well as a set of research and advocacy objectives and outcomes for the current year by which organizational success will be measured.
