Farms: How far away will automatic farms still work? 1.8 LP Hermit Research

Prepping for my upcoming 1.8 LP series where I plan on having several smaller decentralized bases, and I got to wondering...how far away can I place a base/farm before it gets unloaded from memory and stops working? Well, I have the answer! I also figured out approximately how far an item will travel in a water item conveyor before the 5min despawn timer runs out. Special shout-outs to Etho for his original BUDS switch concept, as well at FallofWar's compact redstone version found here: http://youtu.be/rYB928Bur0g Amazing stuff you two! Likes, Comments, Feeback, and Subscriptions are mucho appreciated-o! :)

how do you get the thing in f3 that tells you about slimes

@Cr0n1xx don't worry, when I'm typing letters and documents I can't seem to spell it "generic" anymore :)

@Cr0n1xx cool thanks for the link pal

After watching two videos you have earned yourself a new subscriber.

I came to see a tutorial on water conveyors, however, I'm glad I stuck around. Great research, very enlightening, thanks.

@Generikb yea i know also there is a mod for that

@imsupiour imma beat you ;-) read comments below haha

@CartoonGaz ya someone mentioned that already, but ice would just get the item there quicker...it wouldn't really help you break the 144 block barrier in the video. Besides, most biomes won't create ice (how I wish we could craft ice from snow!)
-
You should use Ice
-
Etho was right and wrong. Let me explain. The 144 is an approximation, not an actuality. Same with the 288 number tossed out for mob spawning. The game works off chunks. A players position in a current chunk means nothing, just the chunk the player is in. Same with this test. The chunk itself unloads once you enter a certain chunk so 144 isn't always the case, but it's close. Same with mob spawning at 288 (144 in both directions). Just approximations, not accuracies.
-
nice real world testing, i'm guessing the distance will vary according to chunks, so like 16 blocks variation, maybe.

@MrWoodsti saaaame here bud!
-
@Maik4343 ya like MrWoodsti said, it's not really worthwhile to test because we already know from my test that blocks can travel around 200 blocks before despawning, but won't "grow" outside of the 144 block range. Items for sure go faster on ice than the normal water streams, so the only real benefit is they will get to your collection point faster. Plus, ice is only available in certain biomes legit...so it wouldn't help much if i'm in a different biome.
-
lay ice undernead it so you can test to see if it is the time limit or the distance, cause items go faster on ice. tumbs up so he can see please.

nice, im really looking forward to your 1.8 lets play
