Hoshikin Koi Farm - 2011 Tosai Kohaku Selection - Koibito Japan. Here you can see Hoshino san selecting through tosai which are about 3 months old or so. He is selecting mainly on the size of the koi, with the bigger ones heading into the far right hand side pond, and the smaller ones heading into the left hand side pond. The blue net is reserved for koi which don't make the cut, (body deformities, skin colouration not good, severe lack of pattern etc...), and will not be kept. These fish will be "retired" from active service on the farm. Hoshino san treats the koi in the large blue bowl with anaesthetic before starting selection to prevent them from jumping out of the bowl themselves. This, he says, enables him to select quicker, and poses little risk to the koi themselves, as only a minimal amount of anaesthetic is used each time.

Good koi but being gentle would not hurt. (Pretend you are the fish)you are sad because you are in a bucket with 2,000 brothers and sisters and then wooosh a net scoops you up and now you are really scared and then bammm you are grabbed by the tail and yanked and now you are in the air freaked out and then splashhh you hit the water with such an impact you are almost knocked out and you look around the pond and notice that your best friend is not in the same pond as you and you begin to cry

those koi all look beautifull for me, discrimination

can he have a few small bowls to put them in instead of tossing them around!. reminds me of the chicken farming vids ive seen and not good. a bit of kindness and to be gentle costs nothing he should be ashamed of his rough treatment

The koi in the net are the ones he doesn't want...they are not good enough for him to keep. The others are being size graded into two ponds. The ones which are left in the net at the end do not make the grade because of either poor body, deformities (bent, bad fins, bent head...pattern: one step, menkaburi (head covered in beni)...poor beni, beni that's fallen apart). The koi are anaesthetised before selecting, that's why they are all floating at the top of the bowl making them easier to handle.

I am sorry, all of 11 German Kois are dead ! (they have all died in only 1 week) I am verry sure that it was Koi Herpes Virus, I am sending a probe to a labor soon. I will not again buy German Koi ! expensiv to throw away all the thinks - because I think the Virus can survive in Plastic - I know that musrooms can grow through plastic - so I think a Virus can survive in plastic.
