Farms: Horne Creek Farm - DanTraveling Travel North Carolina
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
From the Horn Creek Website At Horne Creek Living Historical Farm, a multi-year project is underway to reconstruct the physical environment and seasonal work cycle of an early 20th-century family farm in the North Carolina piedmont. Visitors may encounter farm animals of all but vanished breeds once kept on the Hauser Farm or savor old-fashioned apple varieties grown in Horne Creek's heritage apple orchard. You can try your hand at cutting grass with a scythe or listen to a talk on how to cook on a wood stove. Through educational programs ranging from white oak basket making workshops to an annual corn shucking frolic, Horne Creek Living Historical Farm provides a unique opportunity to learn about our rural past. I love the videos you make of the south. If you ever get the chance, come down to abbeville sc and check out the history of our little town!
-
That is very cool Larry, I had an uncle who restored player pianos. I am certain pump organs must be very difficult.
-
Probably not for me either, but we have been trying to support the local farmers market more. Thanks for the kind words
-
I know their aren't many places left whee you can avoid the sprawl! I have been to western MI it is awesome up north by the lake
-
I love it. I love the old farmey times.... sometimes I wish I was born to live it. I want to live the old farm life like this... but that wont ever happen =\
-
Thanks phillipah, The farm is very much like my grandparents farm, it was very self sufficient! I think sometimes how great it would be, but the people of this 100 year old farm spent about 70-90 percent of their time working on growing and preparing food.

Thanks Nicole!

Very well done. I do not think that this type of farm will die out. If ever a oil crisis hits. Local farming will do the business of feeding the people.

Thanks Daniel! dburr (i accidentally removed your comment, so very sorry, it was a good one) I figured you would know plenty about farms, being from the breadbasket and all. I like your comment about Hollywood gloss, I am so tired of the hype TV style that seems to be invading everything.

Look forward to all/any of your videos! ~Rebecca

Thanks so much Scott aka AOD Your compliments are always an honor! I really did think about your request for more detail when putting this together :)

Thats awesome Rebecca, we have a couple of furniture pieces from family as well, They are treasures. I dont remember/know about the tree, but I have to assume that it was an original idea, the farm is very specific about being true to the era. We are working on a couple of different places, one is about a train and the other we hope to film will be about Cherokee, NC. Maybe we can find out about the Indian farming? Oh and a Beach thing about Myrtle too ha ha

Thanks so much Symbioteofadiety! Dan

Thank You Mamamia, This is one of the nicest compliments we have received.

FANTASTIC !! This one was really really good Dan.

Great story! Great video! I really like this one, Dan =) The parlour in my great grandmother's (dairy farm)home was also off limits to all kids. I now have some of that furniture in my home. It was wonderful to hear the history of the family, see the farm as it once was, and even the animals! Both you and Janet got some very nice shots! Do you have any more, like this one, planned? Oh! Was the bottle tree an original? Or added later. I love bottle trees. On my list to created one in my yard.
