"New Girl In Town" was a 1957 Broadway musical which was based upon Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning play "Anna Christie". Gwen Verdon and Thelma Ritter starred in the show, with a book by George Abbott and music and lyrics by Bob Merrill. Gwen Verdon played Anna, and in this ironic song - Anna describes to her father Chris Christopherson (Cameron Prud'homme) and his "old lady" Marthy (Thelma Ritter) how her "safe" life "On The Farm" - where Anna was sent by her father to live with her cousins when she was a little girl - started her descent into a life of prostitution.
