Chickens outnumber residents in Delaware by more than 200-to-1, and with new chicken houses planned, that ratio could be on the rise.

such betrayers! raising Cornish rock x instead of perdues original roaster the Delaware chicken, developed IN Delaware and outcompeted to near extinction between perdue and then-new col sanders fried chicken fast food empire in 1952. a total population of around 6000 is all that's left of the Delaware chicken(a.k.a. over the years as 'Delaware giants' or 'indian rivers' back to the 40s) but the Delaware takes 9mos to be a harvestable fryer, and a Cornish rock x only takes 5-6 weeks to be a monster 7lb roaster. but I think large, multi-level foam/cement dome building structure would be a better idea, if there was a plot of farmland of several acres for them to roam in five-week rotations, with a fenced pathway for them to access it daily, if you have 6 such large acreage farm plots it can be re-attached to each plot, so the birds get sunshine, fresh air, extra protein from bugs and worms, AND have your plot evenly fertilized with an amount nature can take back quickly without overloading it to uselessness. large amounts of methane and ammonia WILL screw your soil and 'burn' your plants roots, and cause both stunting and deformity, as well as create a giant petrie dish of bacteriological plentitude that really can shit on your land and piss in your water. literally. if you can do a plot large enough to give each bird 8sq ft of space. due to genetics and super-feed there should not be any bad trade offs. the birds will have stronger bodies, slightly denser muscle structure, but will not be lacking for protein due to thousands of bugs they will consume, they cant run well, or even walk near the end, but fresh air will minimize lung tissue scarring from inhaling an atmosphere slightly akin to saturns moon titan with ammonia and methane fumes, thusly increasing o2 intake and strengthening heart function and perhaps get an extra week of growth before its heart stops or bones break. in nature, its use it or lose it. the idea also save a lot of shoveling and build up of smell. you cant just put shit 2 feet thick on a field. 3 inches with a layer of maple and oak leaves everyone throws away every year is the ideal mix that the worms will work on and process and give you great healthy black soil. sell it once it builds up too much, its renewable every season and free. but the right balance is crucial. its the difference between creating a garden of eden, or a cesspool. its a labor/cost effective idea that improves the quality of the product, increases production, and keeps things cleaner and slices a bit off production costs so your workers that shovel your shit for you can get a little surprise raise as well as making a bit more for your pocket by a slight sales increase due to the slight increase in production. its what makes better financial sense. dome structures are impervious to most natural disasters, circulate air and heat way more efficiently, and give more than a mere 2 dimensional flat expanse of room. 3 or 4 levels birds rotated will increase it that much. a dome structure could even be built underground and save the top for your crops and forage areas. the pros should out weigh the cons of it.
