Reid Gray started Gray House Farms in Stony Point, North Carolina back in 1966 and now he’s running the dairy operation with his sons Andy and Jimmy. They’re currently milking about 300 cows on their approximate 1,600 acres. Some of it’s even in forestry. We’re here every day of the year trying to produce a healthy, wholesome food that the American citizen can consume. Jimmy says the Grays also have a responsibility to neighbors through their land and the environment, ”We’re committed to soil and water conservation here. There are two different streams where there’s a buffer that’s fenced out and no cattle can go in there, we don’t farm it. These particular easements have vegetation up each bank, so they actually work as a sponge. It slows the water down and helps reduce your soil and bank erosion, and protects against flooding.”
