FreedomFarmsPA.com Freedom Farms is a sustainable agricultural farm. We raise produce. We raise meats. Grain. It's uh, very diverse farm. Freedom Farms is a pretty young company. We're six years old but we're a third generation farm. We've dabbled in every aspect of the industry. But Freedom Farms is our venture to do it together. This is a lifestyle. It's not a job. It's not a career. This is what we do. I have the best food because I know exactly how it's raised and where it's coming from. Most of the animals here are reared and raised right on this ground so, I mean, it keeps you connected. Um, from having more grass, making things look greener around me rather than putting up concrete, putting up a building and throwing some animals in it because that's comfortable for me. I'd rather see them in their natural habitat doing what they're supposed to be doing. A lot of these processes go hand in hand. It's a symbiotic relationship that produce is grown and they take from the land and we put the land back in the pasture where the animals can give back to the ground and let the ground rest. And we also use straw to build up organic matter. You know, we always are giving back to the land. The sustainability of it is really contagious and the food movement, it's growing strong and people are starting to realize they've never been more disconnected from their food source. Farming is a part of me. It's like in my blood. It's, when I'm here and doing my work it, it feels right. It's something that I'm passionate about. I want people to understand that it's important to know where your food's coming from and know how that food is being produced. The methods that we use is definitely what makes such a high quality product. It's constant movement. It's animals raised with ethic, I guess. I put a lot of sweat into making sure they're comfortable. I mean, I wouldn't raise them any other way. Farming with natural practices is very difficult. Way more labor intensive. There's way more planning that goes along with this. It's a lot of time and a lot of work, but it's important to me to do it so that we can all have healthy food and have sustainable agriculture. We appreciate the support that we already have but we're young, we're ambitious. We're trying to push this method of raising produce. Some of the things we're doing right now, we have, uh, a meat bus that we drive to the city every single day so people can get our meats that are completely natural, grass fed, no hormones, antibiotics or steroids. We do the doughnut shop because we want to be able to raise our own grains to feed our own pigs and our chickens and we're able to make flours. We're able to make breads, donuts and pastries, and have something to sell throughout the winter time. And we also have a sandwich shop so that we can take our produce and our meats straight to the consumer. They don't need to cook it. At our store and all of our farmers markets, you can get signed up for our meat. Stock your larder program is what we call it. 15 chickens, a half a pig and a eighth of beef. We do travelling farmers markets in the city for the people that can't make it out to the farm. We get up, we pick it fresh that morning, we haul it down there. The CSA is a great way for somebody who doesn't know what to do, you know, when they go to a farmers market or what's a good buy. The other way a lot of our customers do it is they put the whole balance on a card and that way they can shop when they want, buy what they want. It works at any of our stores and our travelling markets. I mean it's very important that people buy local so that a farm like this can still exist. But it's important for them too. The money's not what drives us. My grandparents raised a family on this land and I hope that my kids can raise a family on this land. We grew up here. We have an emotional connection to the soil. To the trees. To the animals. To this food. So it's a lot harder for us to take shortcuts because we have a true connection with every living thing on this farm. It's labor intensive, for sure, but it's incredibly gratifying and at the end of the day I'm hungry and I get to eat the best food in the world. Which is grown right here. It's awesome.
