Tape Start after ww1 around 1920 this tape covers to 1918-20 Frank Rice Shilston -- 5/30/1900-7/15/2000 -- Born in Exton, England -- 2 brothers & 2 sisters -- married to Miriam Sanda 3/22/41, Brainerd, Minn. They had two children, Clystene & Framir and 4 grandchildren. And now 9 great grandchildren. Frank served in the British Army during World War I, fighting on the front lines in France at the age of 16. In 1920, after the war, he moved from England to Canada where he farmed for many years. He later attended Oxford College in England and in 1929 settled in the U.S. Frank & Miriam met in 1940 when both worked in the Cooperative movement in Minnesota (stores and other services owned by consumers). Frank worked for Cooperatives his entire life, first as a field man (traveling representative) and later as a credit union loan counselor in Mpls. Over their lifetime together, they lived in the Minnesota cities of Alexandria, Bemidji, Albert Lea, and Bloomington before retiring to Gun Lake near Aitkin, MN, in 1966. For many years, they traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida, during the winter months where they owned a home. Miriam died at age 74 from a fall at home and Frank died 12 years later of old age, 6 weeks after his 100th birthday.
