by ANELIA K. DIMITROVA Volunteer firefighters from several communities battled stubborn flames and racing winds to subdue a fire that blazed on a dairy farm near Sumner, Iowa, on Wednesday afternoon. No one was hurt and no animals were injured, but the fire, at 3232 220th street, destroyed300 tons of feed and 120 bales of corn stalks, stays owner Greg Meyer. He said that a worker who was using a chainsaw reported the fire and the likely cause is a spark from the tools. The flames were fanned by strong winds. Firefighters worked fast to control the blaze and move the burning bales as far away from the buildings as possible because they feared the dry conditions and the heavy winds threatened the animals in the sheds. Sumner, Readlyn, and Oran firefighters made multiple trips to their headquarters to replenish their water supplies. "They did some amazing things," said Meyer.
