Soviet Union. Russian peasants taking in the harvest. Mostly women bailing hay. A very skinny old man walks ankle deep in water sowing seed. A horse ploughs through the flooded fields. A harvester reaps wheat. A threshing machine with a large number of people working around it, women throw bundles of wheat into the mouth of the machine, straw comes out the other end. A market in a Russian provincial town. People haggle over items, two women and a man talk over pieces of rope. Women carefully examine eggs? Another woman looks at an enamel bowl. Grain is ground into flour with a large hand turned grinder. Grain is poured in the top of the mill. Various scenes of the harvest, women turning the drying sheaves of wheat in the fields and putting them in piles. Loading the harvest on the huge wagons being pulled in the field. More important politicians, a huge crowd surges as it yells its approval. The men wave out of train locomotive. A group of women look at a poster on a wall, no idea what it says but it doesn't look nice. A long line of wagons with women driving them, possibly the beginning of collective farming. A man walks along the line of wagons in what looks like the largest coat ever to exist. People load things onto trains, perhaps being relocated to other areas of the country. A village festival in one of the propaganda films. Young couples dance together excitedly. The accordion players laughs and smiles. More collective farming scenes. Families move out of a village, leading horse carts, a couple of boys do cartwheels beside the wagons as they start off. People hand in sacks of grain. Small children. The backs of women's heads as they watch a government inspector. A man uncovers a huge vat of grain and runs it through his fingers. Government officials break open a low outbuilding, and confiscate hoarded grain that a family has kept. Soldiers pack huge bags on grain on their backs, for use by the army? A line up in a village at a table where a government official looks at people's papers. A completely deserted village, horse amble aimlessly down a very muddy street. Cows walk outside a very run down looking farmhouse. Peasants starving to death. A peasant walks down a rutted road, with a sack on a stick over his shoulder. Women and children, refugees fleeing to ? Large numbers of people walking down the road in the country. A couple of people abandoned by the side of the road, one is still alive, the other is probably dead. Men in the gulags, wrapped up warm in the snow but all looking fairly miserable, it is snowing. They stand around a quarry. One man holds a spike, another hits it with a short handled hammer. Stalin talks, a line of women write down what he says about collectivisation. Lumberjacks, they ride floating logs in the river and use their poles to control the logs around them. Men haul the logs out of the river with ropes. Two men carry a log on their shoulders. Timber production. Building a log house beside a river. A march of workers. Industry and manufacturing. A factory. Making light bulbs. Building a railway, a cutting, men and women work in road construction and railway construction. In the Kremlin again, men listen as one of Stalin's henchmen talks. Some of the men have their eyes covered, possibly so they can sleep. These men are possibly on trial. More protests and marches with lots of banners.
