We had such great feedback about the video on Jeremy and Kim's experiment with biological and conventional farming, we thought we'd do another! Here is the lovely Canterbury farming couple with their thoughts on the future of New Zealand farming. What will farming look like in a world with strict limits on the nutrients going into our rivers and lakes?

I like the pasture when the weather is fine but I like the barns when it is too hot or cold. I have never had the freestall barn in twenty years of dairing. I plan on having one for the next twenty but, I do intend to let my cattle graze when the weather is permitting. Why does it have to be an either or situation?

I completely disagree with the comment by the lady about cows in housing barns/sheds.
I dont think its a branding issue, its a husbandry issue.
To see cows up to their udders trudging around in winter mud is a disgrace.
I wonder if the lady, when pregnant, would rather be inside or out when its snowing/pouring with rain.
The barns in my opinion are for winter use not 100% living and milking.
In that way nutrient budgeting is much easier to control.
... it is only a matter of time.
