On our travels throughout the heartland we've visited small farms, big farms, and really big farms. But there are some that, in size anyway, simply defy classification.

So sad. Do you also show the reality when those calves are almost immediately torn from their mothers, heifers and bulls? Year after year, those cows are impregnated, forced to have a calf a year and then forced to part with them. And make no mistake, they love their babies too. It is not true that milk is good for humans and we know that skeletons do better without it. In fact, it causes many diseases. Do you also show them that these cows are so used up by the time they are 4 or 5 years old they are then sent for cheap hamburger. Normally they would live for 20 years. You are trying to brainwash the public because you know that they are buying less and less milk. And that is for many, many good reasons. To see these poor animals on this disgusting assembly line, with no outside time, is disheartening to say the least.

These cows have no off time. They are milked strong and hard for a year, which is hard on the cow and inhumane. At the end of the year when the cow is dry the destroy it, or sell it to be slaughtered. They do this because it's cost effective to have all the cows producing all the time. After a calf is born it's sold to slaughter for veal. That's the ugly truth you're not being told in this video. Farmers have tried to stop this practice, but if the don't abide by the corporate way, they don't farm; that is the farms that are still left that haven't been run out of business by corporations.

My Uncle Howard Plaxton had about 30 head of Holstien cattle with a milking machine!! Where I drove my first vehicle, an old Ford tractor....

did they tell you what they do with Male calfs

I thought it was wonderful. This practice isn't going away and it's really nice to have an organization that cares a bit more for the animal. The cows seem more relaxed being with each other and looking at each other on the wheel. Keeping track of the cow's daily walk is interesting and I'm sure the birth center is amazing.

there are no small farms any more...its factories.
read...see the movie Food Inc.
only a few companies monopolize the entire usa -
who decided milk ( cows) is good for you.
Man is only mammal that drinks any milk after being weaned.
Its wrong..and un healthy. Drink milk from YOUR MOM.. and thats it.
monkey=monkey milk, etc. A calf will not drink milk after its weaned.
so sick....makes me sick -
Great Video.... Fantastic Concept!

:( Please Fair Oaks Farm, find a way to get these animals outside out of these small contained pens. Isn't there a way to let them roam and be free more so than they are? This is no way for a living creature to live. And I'd rather buy product from a small farm who allows their animals to be in a less confined system. This is milking factory is not natural and to showcase it as a place for family to visit with their kids is perverted.
Maybe people who drink milk and eat beef should own and care for their own livestock so they would be more mindful of the life these animals live-and then they'd have a better life. We used to have an agricultural society a hundred years ago. Maybe we need to get back to this, or belong to some kind of agricultural cooperative so people have closer connection to their food and can have a hand in farming and getting it. This is what we need to teach children. Respect for mother nature and all living creatures. There was a reason for the saying "till the cows come home" it's because they were free to be in the pasture and at a leisurely pace come back to the barn in to be tended and protected by their farmers. People need to support the small farm and make policy that helps them survive in a market where big companies have to use technology like this to operate and stay in business.

This is wrong. -
I hate to see them in these stalls, unable to move and walk around. It is animal cruelty in my opinion.

Hey there everyone I had the opportunity to visit Fair Oaks Adventure Center and let me tell you it was a fantastic learning opportunity! I thought I might answer some questions for anyone who was curious about what is going on in this video, I'm an agricultural communications major at NMSU.

If you can even consider it a farm, its more like a warehouse
-
Do they ever walk about in a field????
-
Gaw-Leeeeeee ! ! ! ! My FFA Class would be amazed at this factory/farm
-
With 25,000 acres, why aren't the cows allowed to graze on grass fields instead of feeding in troughs?

I have seen similarly managed Diary forms in Italy. Every thing is computer controlled the measurments of individual consumption, if on any medication/Vaccination if so full status, individual milk out put, at leasst the milking zone looks neat & clean like a good hospital/star rated Hotel, all the controls are through the Chips in the animal's collars, visitors and students come to watch, their are different sections for their food handling etc and Cheese making, making Biogas etc. But the Million Dollar question is still in the west people are not fond of milk and milk products like Indians instead they relish the Wine and Beef. The Truth is the most densely populated country on earth, The India, has its backbone as Agriculture based on Dairy farming and no body is marvelled by its Micro and Macro Management.
interest you. I would
appreciate your view
