Oct 12, 2015 ZEELAND, MI -- Road freights might be the most exciting, but spotting cars on customer spurs is what pays the bills for railroads. Based out of Waverly Yard on the CSX Grand Rapids Sub, Y223 is the second trick Holland Job, assigned to working the "Dock Track" customers in downtown Holland, as well as what we see here just east in Zeeland. Starting at Waverly, the control point on the east end of the yard, they begin their shoving move to Zeeland. The engine is sandwiched into the consist, owing to the setup of the trackage in Zeeland. After catching their arrival, the crew made their way onto the ancient siding, known at the MJ Lead. They're soon picking the empties from Zeeland Lumber Co, and spotting the fresh loads. Next, they move down to the end of the lead, where Vanden Bosch receives inbound feed ingredients for area poultry farmers. They've got two cars to pickup and one to setoff this fine October evening. I really enjoyed this video. I started following the line on Google Maps at Zeeland Lumber and wound up going miles and miles through farmland until I was surprised to reach Standale Lumber-another great video of yours. From there it was on to Grand Rapids where I found PCA but was not able to find was Padnos Iron and Metal from your rough industrial track video. Does CSX operate any mainline traffic on the route between the yard near Zeeland and Grand Rapids or is it just served by locals? I'm not from the area, but your videos (this one, PCA and Padnos) are all terrific. Thank you for sharing these videos with us.

nice train horn

On class 1s, I have noticed that a lot of the trains are starting to do an extra honk in the grade crossing sequence. Did the FRA change the horn sequence for railroad crossings, or are the engineers just adding extra honks because they started the sequence too early?

cool seeing stuff like this. Another scenario I could potentially add to operations on my future layout :-)

Great video, and (much to) many train honking. In the Netherlands, Zeeland is a province and the name "Vandenbosch" is here spelled as "van der Bosch".

Another great video. Well shot, well edited and on a great subject. Really appreciate you capturing this stuff. I'm going to use this video for a blog post in the new year. Outstanding.

Very nice video. The caboose is very cool.

I can't remember the last time I saw a caboose. Thank you for sharing.

thank you for this informative video. I love watching switching jobs, especially when there is adequate information on what is occurring!
