nice videos , you always make good vids . i tell you what i came here for this time . i have vdo gauges on my vw berrien buggy , the oil gauge works on resistance also and is not that accurate cause at night i turn the lights on the oil pressure shows me a drop in oil pressure and that is wrong. my VDO speedometer all new stuff is acting like a rpm gauge the pointer needle is surging all over the place in other words it moves around as it pleases . remember this is al new stuff i know and i am positive its installed right cause i did it and i was schooled on elec , mech , welding .hvac. cert so this was easy for me , what the hell do you do when everyone tells you even the tech line of vdo ,we don't know ? just saying . i probably with have to live with it i know but i wanted your opinion cause i trust your judgement . thank you

Some sensors avec only one wire, how could i test them ?
Many thanks ! -
at what resistance does the fan come on ?
-
let the water boil then thats 100 deg C :D

Hello Richpin, I was installing some gauges and my defi temp gauge didn't show a reading, I measured resistances on the sensor and it shows 50k in boiling water which I think is not right (too high). Resistance goes down as I increase temperature though. Is this a typical scenario where a broken sensor will still show the good behavior in resistance trend but the resistances will be way too high for what they should be? Just want to make sure it is broken before reordering. Thank!

I disconected mine. to test fan. i jumped it. fan turned on. then i disconnected the jumper and fan stays on. is this ok to leave disconnected untill i get my new sensor?

Anawered my next question lol wow best videos
-
lol. derrrr...thank you Richpin. I appreciate your help!

Hi there Richpin. Quick question-on a 1995 Saturn, there are two coolant temperature sensors. Apparently, one for the gauge, the other for the computer. Since they are both in the head, presumably to report coolant temperature, would it really matter which harness I connected to either sensor? The top one is so much easier to get to for removing the harness for other repairs, and so forth.

hi can you post some diagram that can monitor the temperature of appliances?
-
how would you check this while still in the engine so that the needle can be pulled and reset to the right position on the temp gauge? All my needles were removed and I'm having to set them manually.

I follow your instructions on how to test resistance of ECT sensor and it shows my ECT sensor is ok. but in actual my engine die down or stopped when engine got hot.
I replaced with a new ECT sensor which read the same resistance value with the old ECT sensor, but when i put my new ECT sensor ,engine never dir down or stopped even engine get hotter.
It means resistance test is not guarrantee if ECT sensor is spoiled...
Thanks anyway for your video demo. -
Another great video, thanks

Thank you for this video. Is the pigtail wire and cap something that you made yourself or is it the oem connector? Can I accomplish the same thing by attaching a wire to the body of the sender and a separate wire to the terminal post on top? I ask as I have two identical temp gauges and they read 15 +/- F apart. With the reading portions of both thermistors submerged in a pot of water, one is bang on with my digital thermometer, the other, on average, 15 degrees lower. I can get resistance per temp values from the manufacturer. Thanks in advance.

how do i tell if its bad or good if i put it in hot water and the number goes down does that mean its a good or bad
-
Does this thing cause back fires too?
-
Could you just check it right on the car?

on honda's at least, there are multiple temp sensors. the radiator temp sensor that activate the rad fan relay is independent of the dash gauge sensor. and a third temp sensor correlates with the ecu to adjust idle speed, fuel consumption etc.
