GENESEE COUNTY/Elba Firefighters from two counties save Elba home from going up in flames A chimney fire that spread into the walls of a home on Oak Orchard Road near Lockport Road was quickly put out before spreading throughout the structure. Crews from Elba, Town of Batavia, Oakfield, Byron, South Byron, Bergen, Clarendon and Barre were able to break apart the upper and lower walls surrounding the chimney area of the house and stop the fire from traveling to other areas of the two story farm house. The family was home at the time of the fire. All occupants were able to get out of the house safely and no one was injured. The fire was put out in about an hour and a half and code enforcement was called to the scene to assess if the family could stay in the residence this evening.
