It is a new Moringa variety developed by Mr Alagarsamy -famer innovator from Pallaptti village ,Nilakkottai Taluka, Dindigul Dsitrict of Tamil Nadu, India in 2002. It is highly nutritious vegetable tree. It has been planted by more than 20,000 farmers in Tamil Nadu,Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh, etc in about 12000 ha. . About 90 lakhs seedlings/air layers have been distributed. It can be planted at the rate of 150 seedlings in one acre (20x20 feet) and start giving yield 6-7 months from the date of planting and lasts for about 20 years or more. Yield per acre 10-15 tonnes of drumstick (from 11/2 year onwards ) and reaches about 30 tonnes in about 5 years years. A tree average yield is 300 kg of drumstick pods (5 th year ). This can be planted through air layered seedlings available at his nursery.He standarised organic farming practices for drumstick tree cultivation. He is a member -president of grassroots innovators association promoted by SEVA. He recieved SRISTI Sanman award,CII Award,City Bank ,Mahindra Tech Awards for his new variety.
