Farms: Drone Laws/guidelines and my thoughts on them
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
I think the current drone laws/guidelines are too strict to say where the technology has grown in the last few years. These toy drones are anything but toys now and are build to high quality standards and the newest ones have multi layers of fail-safes in them that should be accounted for when making these guidelines/laws. Please always fly safe and never push the envelope too far when flying around people, but remember that "guidelines" are not laws and can't be enforced. The Canadian government has these full set of guidelines laid out for all to clearly see, but actual laws are very hard if not impossible to figure out, so always just use your own judgement. I encourage people to gain a lot of experience in an open space before every flying like me, and gain a full understanding of how long your drone takes to react to controller input, to stop, turn, etc. Always check that your compass is properly calibrated to avoid a crash or fly-away. For those that don't like the way I fly, or the videos I make, feel free to report me to any authorities you see fit. One thing to keep in mind, especially for my Canadian viewers is never take money for footage as that would be a crime. I have had several people ask to buy footage from me, and I have turned down every offer and told them just to download it from youtube at no charge as I don't want to lose my hobby pilot status, and it would also make my flying illegal as all the guidelines become law if you are commercial in this hobby. Thought Australian rules where bad. Our max height is 120 metres and we only have to be 5 kilometres away from airports etc and 30 metres away from people.

Hey! I saw you were a subscriber of mine so I was curious what you little hobby was so I checked out your channel. We both have a love of Drone Videography so I am sure we will enjoy each other's content, so keep up the good videos like this one. I agree with everything you said here. I have a Q500 4K and the new Mavic Pro but I am also a fellow Canadian so it gets a bit difficult to get in as much flying time as I would like in this inhospitable weather. Luckily, I have a BVI Sailing charter coming up in Feb so that should make for some good episodes in the not too distant future. Keep up the good work.

Good advice. I need to learn the settings to make my footage look like this.

I like what you said in your video agree with everything you mentioned.
We have very strict laws here in the UK.
I always say F**k it enjoy your life you only live once.
Everyday is a risk taking.
If I obey every flipping drone rule in the book I be better off not unboxing my phantom. -
hit the nail on the head. thanks MLH 👍👍👍up to you my friend...

Canadian rules are alot harder then USA rules.

Great points (and cool flight too..). I agree, so many of these "rules" are overkill, but I suppose they had to make rules that could work for everybody, even the morons that own drones lol. I've always thought you are as responsible as you can be- really common sense can go a long way for everyone. After passing my FAA part 107, I learned alot about the relationship between drones and manned aircraft, and honestly I think that is the biggest reason they don't really want us flying out of LOS-to reduce probability of collision (of course common sense should prevent that!). I think once they make beacons in drones that aircraft can sense, and as technology advances, the LOS rule will dissipate. Kind of sucks now that I am commercial, since I have to obey whether or not I agree :(. I'd give it less than 10 years and Amazon.com will be delivering by drone. Anyway, good video, keep them coming, you've been pumping out quite a few lately, I'm impressed! -Preston.

Agree your points on drone rules are spot on.

Could not agree more!
-
Agree 100% percent

I agree with everything you just mentioned.
These drones cannot spy on people number one they are too f**kin noisy and no zoom capability.
Number two if I wanted to spy on someone I use a cell phone or a DSLR Camera both nice and easy and very quiet too. -
Nice well explained agreed with everything you said.
The privacy rule with drones are Bulls**t
I hate it when people talk about privacy when they are uploading everything they do onto instagram,Facebook and Twitter. -
good advice, great video as always

I've got an Idea! lets go to a field in the middle of nowhere you hit me in the head I'll say the injury caused me to go blind in left eye (already blind in left eye) then when the media gets a hold of this which you know they will I'll say on my interview (hopefully live) that ppl and the media need to get over this drone thing, If you dont want the public seeing you pick your nose! Dont pick your nose in public. And for an added bonus I'll yell F.H.I.T.P.

Could you do laws for America?
-
Can't wait till Christmas when my drone comes

Thanks for sharing. I live in the States and we have about the same regs as you do with the altitude limit being 400ft. I am pretty much in agreement with your thoughts and think much of the regs in place were put there arbitrarily with little input if any from actual drone operators. Including our opinions would have included the experiences of many fine operators which would have opened the regulators eyes to the real experiences of our hobby. Thanks again and fly safe!
