Farms: Double and triple nuc increase hives
Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
Welcome to my 28th video. A video series detailing the life of a beekeeper. From it's humble beginnings of a failed hive to starting a company. Come along as I figure it all out. You can also find me at burnleyfarmapiary.com and https://www.pinterest.com/VA_Beekeeper. It's been awhile since I posted. The computer I use to use is acting up so I couldn't upload anything. I have 4 or 5 videos on it I have to pull off. I'm trying to catch up, please bare with me. Until then... This time I'm going to show you how I plan to increase my colony count by using double nuc deep boxes and triple nuc queen castles. The experiment continues. Please follow me as I learn to be the best bee keeper I can be. If you like my movies and think I'm a doing a good job, please tell your friends and fellow beekeepers. Drop me a line or leave a comment. Better yet, subscribe and you'll know when new videos come out. I'd really love to hear from you. Enjoy. Thurman

That is so smart!!!! I'm doing this woodenware this winter!

nice job. and there is an extra bonus that there is a selection of queens in the nucs can be evaluated for certain traits and known to be good queens before they go into production and start paying bills. instead of buying an unknown queen and throwing her into production. Micheal palmer has videos about stacking little nuc boxes ontop of the 10 frame box too

DID YOU MAKE YOUR OWN PLANS FOR THESE OR GO BY A SET OF DIMENSIONS ON A PLAN?
-
Ok this sounds like something I may want to do.I like the insurance factor of other hives and queens. However your production hives. Are you selling them off as nucs and continue to regrow your production hives over and over until the end of the season? Or are you keeping them for yourself? I am assuming your selling them otherwise you would just grow and grow.

Hey Thurman,
Great video - thanks for sharing your ideas.
You mention you have read 'Increase Essentials'. I've tried to find this online but am having no luck. Can you advise me on the where to find the literature?
Cheers -
No no no
Way to fast , far to complicated.
SLOW DOWN -
I like the way you think, good job.

Do you sell any queen bees? My brother lives your way and I mentioned you to him that you might have one to sell.

Hi , what i'm curious about is how many frame do i can give to my production hive (which have all ready the queen and let's say 7 frame ) ?
what i mean is to do not be to much eggs, so i will give to the hive to work to take out the eggs and to work on to the frame
Thanks a lot -
Well done Thurman! Clever idea with the langstroth triple nucs. Make sure you have enough drones to mate with the new queens as well. We used to use catch boxes or 5/6 frame boxes to make increases and then split the frames and queen from each other to force the queenless frames to use 5 days or younger eggs / larvae to make emergency queen bees.
In order to get the queen to lay drone eggs you can place a super frame into the hive/nuc and they will only build drone cells on this.
We do bee courses monthly as well and great videos! www.beeware.co.za and we all work with the African Killer bees... -
Great stuff. Good for keeping bees alive.

Hi Burnley great video i would like to ask you if you could make a video for us the new beekepers with the triple nuc, thanks for all the tips.
-
what camera are you using?

I'm getting ready to start building my own nucs for overwintering. I've got a bunch of deeps. Would you suggest using them to build nucs (double) to keep each other warm this winter rather than constructing 5 frame deep nucs? How do I construct the removable dividers?
-
Will you show an update of your mating nucs??
-
I really liked your idea on triple nuc queen castles. I only have a doubt to use these triple nuc queen castles all queens must be mate right? Have you ever tried to use the Nicot System to produce a lot of queens?

Thank you

Thanks for all the videos on your channel.
If it is possible, could you share with us the blue print? I do not know woodworking at all.
Thanks -
When are you going to start selling the double or triple NUC's?

Cool Idea but isn't this not how bees operate in the wild? (well what wild ones we have left...) This seems like it's just for honey production not health and well fare of the bees. Makes sense though.
