Followup comparison between Dewalt Toughsystem and Ridgid professional grade modular tool boxes. (AKA Ridgid wiremold, Ridgid pro grade). These are modular interlocking tool box and cart compatible systems made in Israel and sold through Home Depot although the Dewalt boxes, made on the Dewalt contract, are also pretty regularly available through Amazon and on Ebay, but not as often at other Dewalt retailers. Cost is relatively high compared to other polymer tool box systems but cheap compared to similar size US made Pelican cases and even the Chinese made Pelican knockoffs.

Ah, what's in the box? I would like to see how various tools fit in the boxes.

Looked at both systems at Home Depot yesterday. I was much more impressed by the Ridgid setup with the built-in cart, steel connectors, easier latches, and the $20 crate box option. I like the idea of DeWalt drawers but keep reading about drag issues due to weight making them sag. Hope Ridgid comes out with drawer option. Thanks for your review, I found it helpful.

Black Friday went to home Depo and got the dewalt with a super sweet new stereo and wheels for 199
3 tools boxs
That is a super nice set up for my work
About to go get another one -
good information, thanks.

Ridgid look so similar to Keter I think it is an OEM product.

Nice, well explained overview of the two systems. Thanks for sharing.

I would like to see the Rigid system expanded to include both longer and wider boxes of 2 or 3 different depths if they made them the same with that the current boxes are long than the current boxes could be snaped on to long boxes of say 40 to 60" long & they could have a handle on 1 end and wheels on the other for transport. Simular to what already exists for gulf club hard boxes except much more rigid virsion than the gulf box virsion.

I have the Rigid set up and also the lesser Dewalt T-stack set up. I avoided the Toughsystem as paying almost $200 for just a hand truck that I can only use for the tool boxes made no sense. The Rigid set up is very solid, I don't use my tool boxes to stand on. Used for mainly my power tools which are dewalt. The T-stack boxes I use for hand tools, sockets, electrical tools etc in the drawer units and the small cases I use for various things such as straps, safety gear, first aid kit.

Great video. I went with the Ridgid system with the center tool box, and like yours there's no Ridgid tools to be found on the inside (Team Teal for me). But your idea of the 3 smaller boxes has me rethinking my setup. I too bought the "egg crate" box which is great except when trying to roll 4 boxes. Guess I need another bottom box. Darn, back to HD...

Nice video......you spoke of a 4 wheel dolly for DeWalt's toughsystem. Do you have a part number as I think it only works for the Tstak system

on the UK the rigid is branded as JCB site system love it

I use 2 of the smaller 'Ridgid' boxes and was wondering about getting the larger base with trolley, im in the UK and over here it's branded as the 'JCB Site System' and its identical. The UK one has a water seal, I assume the Ridgid one does also. nice tip about how to open boxes without lifting the top one off, how stupid do I feel now [ face palm ] lol. Thx for your video, nice info :-)

i have the ridgid box from (small medium and large) and I've been using it for over 1 year doing heavey remodeling jobs. Ive wheeled it up stairs carried heavey weight and laid it on its back to make space in the truck for a couple times. Handel still solid, wheels have no sqeaks and its still like new.

Hands down ridgid better constructed

I just bought the Dewalt Tough System boxes. The video helped me make up my mind. I will do a follow up on how the boxes perform for me in a few months.

The DeWalt tough system L-Carrier actually solves a couple issues, it allows you to lock all of the tool boxes to the cart. It also allows you to pull out any box, including the bottom box without disrupting the entire stack, the drawback being that it is extremely heavy. I am a kitchen re-modeler, there are so many tools that I just need once or infrequently, but I don't want to keep running out to the truck and then spend an hour packing up. I can also lock each box (except the drawer unit) and then lock the boxes to the cart and leave it. (I could cable the cart to a fixed object, but my main concern is just nosy customers breaking tools and laser levels). The drawer unit is pretty flimsy and didn't seem to work very well, but once I slide it into the L-carrier, it takes all the wait of the unit and the drawers slide better. Since this video, they have come out with the radio, the clear-top compartment box and an open top tote.

Open top tool bags are the most efficient way to work, but if you want security get into metal working and build your own tool box because the only secure system is going to be steel, and steel toolboxes of any quality cost a fortune. Just build them yourself. You don't need a logo.

The Rigis is better by far..Locking the Dewalts is futile with a big ass lock because you can cut the plastic with some wire cutters in a couple seconds. The Rigid has a good collapsable push handle. For Dewalt buy a two whell dolly or grocery bag cart? The Dewalt has cheap aluminum clasps ,rickety, and look at those yellow plastic gumball machine tabs on the sides! The Dewalt has steel clasps and I would rather stand on the Rigid than the Dewalt.Dewalt was very dissapointing to me they need to step it up
