Farms: Day Odyssey Series: Ride to the Woodstock Site! (Bethel NY)

Peace, Love, Happiness and all that groovy stuff! Ride along with us to the place it all began-the original site of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair in upstate New York! We're workin' on a groovy thing here! As usual, we begin in Baltimore, then head for the sacred ground-Max Yasgur's Farm! We'll pass localities like Bel Air MD, Lancaster, Reading, Sinking Spring, Kutztown, Allentown and Stroudsburg PA, and Port Jervis and Monticello NY before finally arriving at our groovy destination! The Bethel NY area has undergone some changes since the 1969 concert (most of which since my last visits in 1994 and 96). There's now a Center for the Arts on part of the concert site, along with a hippie museum. Despite my hippie heritage, I kinda have mixed feelings on this. Up until the late 90s one could visit the site in relative PEACE; now, with all the "improvements," there's an influx of omnipresent tourists. The WM Scenic RY and C&O Canal (two more of my all-time favorite places) also fell victim to this. Still-stick around! We'll see the Woodstock Monument, Yasgur's onetime farm, and Filippini Pond-where the skinny-dipping took place! We'll also see the Port-O-Sans as were featured in the original movie! The return trip takes us over interstates 84, 81 and 83, and we see a road we saw during our Centralia trip! All things considered, these are relatively scenic interstates. So don your 60s apparel, and come along! Got groovy opening and closing segments featuring photos and classic video clips! Watch for the hippies! And, as they say, GIMMIE AN F...! You know how that one ends. PEACE. From yer' bullfrog. Dedicated to Max Yasgur, Richie Havens, and all who were there in 1969 and 94. P.S. Also be sure to check out the other Woodstock-related clips on my channel! Got clips from the 1994 25th Anniversary Reunion with Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul & Mary fame), Mountain and Richie Havens-with more to come!

Fantastic Video. You did an excellent Job!

It is a horrible place to visit! If you were there in "69" or even in "94" you know what I mean it is now Mc Stock absolutely heart breaking and sad! A Day In The Garden "99" was like a fast food-corporate version!! With more security and control than I have ever witnessed at any concert site let alone there! With fences everywhere, walk this way signs and check points..I saw what this "businessman" did to a place where for years people would come for 3 days, year after year, to express creative, spontaneous and joyous parts of their souls....Mr. Gerry has only managed to do what every "corporation" eventually does when they think they can bottle or capture something as intangible as the spirit of a generation....
He has only sacrificed what was unique and individual about the place - by dressing it up - by "packaging" it - and unfortunately, in this case using the images, performers and language from "the woodstock generation."
He believes it will sell... he believes it is just another commodity...
Mr. Gerry, don't you know? You can build your "Woodstock Theme Park"
~right there on that very land~
and it will be just like a thousand other "theme" Rock n' Roll McDonalds,
but you can never capture, buy or sell that "magic" that made the land alive... -
Brings back ALL those great memories Was there 2 weeks ago for the 46th Reunion. Peace Love and Hippiness

Thanks again. There are now 2 reunions in Bethel that happen every year and are well worth going to. One of them is on the land around Max Yasgur's farmhouse and the other is at Hectors's. A couple by the name of Roy Howard and Jeryl Abaramson bought and live in Max's farmhouse for the express purpose of holding a reunion there every year. At first it was not "legal" and Roy and Jeryl sacrificed much so that we would have a place to stay when we made the pilgrammage every year - those years sere '96 to about '03. Mr. Howard passed on in '12, may he Rest In Peace, and Jeryl has been able to get a permit the last two years. Search Yasgur Road to find her website and facebook page. I go every year I can. Hope to see you there this year.
All are welcome at both events.
I really like your video style, thanks again!

Wow... what a great tribute video ! Very nicely done, and the footage was awesome. Do you remember the Nehru ( hopefully I spelled that right ) jackets during that time?

Great one Gus! I can't believe you went through Lancaster! You should've checked out the Strasburg Railroad while you were near it. I also liked when you related to your last Day Odyssey Series video at Centralia. Have you checked out my latest vids at Barnesville and Rockville yet? I'm publishing my ride to Chicago video right now. I didn't get to film Pittsburgh because I forgot to turn up the volume on my alarm to wake me up. So I decided to film the station after Pittsburgh which is Alliance, OH. Left a like as usual! :) P.S. Like the new profile pic!
