A few years ago i went over to South Dakota in the US.with 12 other dairy farmers from UK & Ireland to see dairy farms and cheese plants in the Sioux Falls area (Along the Interstate 29). We were guests of SD Min of AGriculture. The SD government wanted UK and Irish farmers to build new dairy farms on green field sites- Minimum size - 500 cows up to 2500 cows or more. The State required 65.000 more cows to supply cheese plants.

Good put of an effort and incredibly good working farms you've got here.

Why don't these folks stay in their own country instead of coming over here at our tax dollars expense taking a vacation or worse, coming in here and opening a factory farm, sopping up money from the poor people of SD and providing jobs for people from south of the border at low wages so they'll be a drain on our medicaid, education and welfare systems. Technically the tax payer if funding their wages on all sides. Big dairies put little farmers out of business.

I grew in this area I know where all these dairies are

-
@normalguyable did you watch the video on youtube called "ohio dairy farm brutality" try watching that one.
-
@sohcsarewicked even worse usa uses and abuses cows like you cant imagine
-
after 5 years when they are done milking themto death, they are sent off to slaughter! and this is a christian nation??
-
when it says "a 500 cow dairy planned for this site" that means it will milk 500 cows right
-
Do they treat cows as bad in UK as they do in north america

I saw it on RTE last night in rep of Ireland. The most he must have got for his own farm would be £2m which was worth $3.58m back in 2005 when he exchanged the money. He had already invested $8m dollars in the first year. Now with US milk prices down below half the price when he started he must be finding it tough going to make repayments. More power to him though not many would have the balls to sell up and leave the motherland to farm in a different country.
