European dairy farmers poured milk over images of European Union leaders in Brussels on Thursday in protest against low prices. Delegations from various countries including Poland, France, Belgium and Germany called on European leaders to act to save European milk producers. "They (EU leaders) really have to solve the market," said Seata Van Kimpema, vice president of the European Milk Board. "When there is too much milk on the market and the prices go down very fast, we need to have instruments to bring the market back in order," she said. "Our farms are in danger, our families are in danger," said Paul de Montvallon, a French milk producer who drove to the protest from Angers, west of Paris. Protesters then let the images of EU leaders "drown" in a pool of milk. Milk producers and the European Milk Board say they are still open for dialogue with EU institutions to solve the crisis, but warned that if nothing is done they will organise "major demonstrations" in the next few months. In France, Belgium and The Netherlands the price of one litre of milk is under 30 cents, and the Baltic countries are particularly hit with prices between 18 to 24 cents per litre.
