My theory is crop circles ( the more intricate examples such as this one) are created by microwave or laser satellite delivered technologies used by our black ops/PTBs & ETs. This form of technology has two purposes. It can be used as a weapon (secret star wars technology) and also for communication. I believe what we are seeing here is this being used as a method of communication be they created by our own earthly defense sats to ET or covert earthly contacts or created by ET to us. To communicate back and forth (w/a civilization (earth) that speaks so many different languages) this method in code using geometry and binary symbols would be mutually understood by those privileged/educated to deciphering the code with less margin for error. Verbal communication  can be misinterpreted especially as its passed on. Internet and other forms of ground communication can be monitored and blocked therefore not reaching their targeted audience. These crop circles can also reach a great number of contacts globally at once thru media exposure and black ops satellite surveillance.
