In April Tina Mark gave our local Archaeology Chapter a presentation on a State Dig which took place on her familys farm in 1970. This was an early 1700's remnant of the Susquehannocks, known as the Conoy tribe. Tina isnt a professional. Her interest is to share her memories, using images and data the State provided. Some of her information isnt up to date with current concepts, however remember that she relied on things the State relayed many years ago. Part 1 focuses on the excavations at the village cemetery. Part 2 will feature the early 1800 artifacts that were recovered at the site. Tina will also give her presentation at the Conoytown Day celebration - May 22, 2010. ( 10 - 4 ) at the Haldeman Mansion in Bainbridge Pa. Below is the news release. Take a step back into 1718 when the land, upon which the mansion was built, was a bustling Native American village. Conoytown was one of the largest trade villages on the Susquehanna. See native peoples and traders dressed as they did 300 years ago. Watch arrow heads and moccasins being made, see tomahawks fly through the air, try grinding corn with a rock, see how pottery was made. Experience all this and much more hands-on activities which depict what life was like in an Indian village in the eighteenth century! The cost is $2.00 per adult, children 16 and under are free. Refreshments will be available. All proceeds will benefit the roof fund. For more information go to the organizations website. www.haldemanmansion.org
