Say "tobacco farming" and people usually think of leafy fields in the south and southeast. But Connecticut farmers have been raising a particular type of tobacco for more than a century.

Farms that kill people...

Grew some Connecticut Broad leaf here in West Virginia in 2013. It did well, despite the rain. Wonder what you are thinking about these spray planes we're seeing all over. They're leaving a trail behind that spreads out and obscures the sky.
I don't know how you feel, but to me losing half of the sunlight, almost every day is quite disturbing. -
bein from Kentucky this is strange to think of tobacco bein grown up north. Different type and that harvest method may be even more back breaking than how we do it, but our baccy is for smoking and chewing depending on whether its burley or dark firecured

Adamm ---Houses are the crop that have taken tobacco land. Try contacting the Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum for more information. Local white kids as you describe them are hired to an extent. Many of them don't want to work the hard sunny hours in the fields. And the farm co-op that Connecticut farmers hire are legal short term workers who return home at the end of the season.

What crops have largely replaced tobacco in this area? The soil looks able to grow diverse stuff. (If I owned land there, I'd probably seek some uncommon "health" or new flavor essence plant since such markets now expand.) Also, I'd seek to do it by machine or hire local white kids for summer work, not bring in aliens (since many will use it to anchor themselves in USA and change the nature of our culture against the root people.)
