MAG-12(A4's) was on the beach, and MAG-13 (F4's) was over next to the Hiway 1 fence. MAG-36, helicopters, was up on the hill, to the north. So was "B" Medical. MAG-13 came in during 1966.

I was there in 1969 as a Chief Warrant Officer Pilot with the 132nd Assault Support Helicopter Company 123 Aviation, flying CH47B models. I was running barefoot to my bunker during a rocket attack. I tripped on a 6"X8" timber. Tore my great toenail nearly off. Afterwards, went to the USMC dispensary to have it removed. While being questioned by a USMC Major Nurse, she was asking a lot of questions, and I asked why? She said it was for my Purple Heart. I informed her that I wouldn't accept it, so she may as well stop with the questions. I asked her if Purple Hearts were that cheap? She told me that she had been instructed to complete the form for all injuries. About a year later while stationed in Germany, I was in a Company formation, when the Commander called my name and was commanded to "Post",(face the commander in front of the formation). The First Sergeant read the citation and I was awarded the Purple Heart anyway.
I really enjoyed my time there. My hootch was uphill from the beach. We had a nice semi-protected area. Not too deep but lots of snorkeling opportunities. Speared lots of Grouper, which we grilled outside the hootch. Met my first Sea Snake while diving there. Went home with a great tan for January in the states. -
I remember the red dirt that was covered by the metal run way. Later we headed to Duc Pho for the sweep through the tunnels. 2/7/1 .

Disbursing? This is interesting because it shows some of what life would have been like, when they weren't carrying out operations. I wonder how many got welcomed by a beautiful girl on the beach. 0.000000001% maybe?

Thank you, I was there 45 years ago, 65-66 2/7 Marines search & destory base camp. It truly was beautiful country side right at the sea. That was an A4 Skyhawk short take off capabilities
