Farms: Chipotle carnitas dropped from menu - Pig farmer reacts to pork standards

Chipotle carnitas no more: Supplier dispute haults pork sales. Restaurant chain drops carnitas from menu, claiming pork suppliers are not living up to animal welfare standards. Chipotle says it stopped serving pork at hundreds of its restaurants after suspending a supplier that violated its standards. Violations concerned the housing for the pigs. Chipotle demands that its suppliers raise pigs in humane conditions with access to the outdoors, rather than in cramped pens. Cincinnati pig farmer, Marc Luff, of Finn Meadows Farm -- which is run by standards expected by Chipotle -- is part of the alternative food movement. He did not like how animals were treated on conventional whole sale farms. Luff says it costs about 50% more to raise animals the way that he does. Luff's pigs get housing in the winter, and access to fields in warmer weather. ◂ WCPO - 9 On Your Side brings you the latest trusted news and information for the greater Cincinnati Tri-State area, including Northern Kentucky and Indiana. Thank you, Chipotle!

Good for Chipotle! I usually get the vegetarian options anyway, but hey! that's another thing I like about them. Their menu is simple and you can opt out of meat and still have a big, fulfilling fast-food meal.

Hooray for Chipotle! As an animal lover, factory farming is such a horrific way for an animal to live and I know it. Six years ago, I saw some awful videos on You Tube and Yahoo about factory farming and because of how I saw animals in the slaughter houses being treated, I became a vegan. It makes me sick that people stuff their faces full of dead animals that suffered grotesquely at the end of their lives just so someone can eat them. The gentleman in this video is doing the right thing by treating these animals with dignity and respect. He's doing a fantastic thing educating Chipotle. Kudos for thinking outside the box and being concerned for the lives of these animals.
Good for Chipotle.
