http://www.marksbodyshop.com/post-repair-inspection/ This excellent reported originally aired on CNN on Anderson Cooper 360 on Feb 11, 2015, but this has been going on for the past 50 years. And, as you know from some of our own case studies, the situation is getting steadily worse! We are one shop in one region in Maryland, but we inspect cars that are unsafe, fixed with cheap parts, on a regular basis. That's why Mark's Body Shop is one of the few shops that have refused any contractual agreements with insurance companies. We refuse to put unsafe cars on the road. If you've ever been the victim of steering from your insurance company, or need help after a shoddy repair, contact us. We can help! http://www.marksbodyshop.com/contact/ Mark’s Body Shop 4025 Mortimer Ave Baltimore, MD 21215 Corner of Reisterstown Road and Northern Parkway Phone: 410.358.5155 Hours: Monday thru Friday, 8AM to 5PM

Problem is, even if I bring the car to my choice of auto shop, in the end, the insurance would cut a check that is way below what my shop would charge had it been done properly! That's one issue. Another issue is that what if the shop is also doing a shoddy job. Instead of doing a job that the amount of the check call for, the shop does even less. There's just too much room for them to play with, and the average Joe just doesn't know the industry enough to know the difference. What a shame!

I agree with the use of recycled parts, so long as the parts are clean and undamaged. But, I think that they should only be used on vehicles that are older, meaning after five years or so. And then, only certain parts. With regards to the reman headlamp, I agree it should never be used.

Apparenty no one is talking about how some body shops ""inflate repairs"" so insurance companies pay thousands and thousands of dollars on repairs not even involving a loss raising premiums for consumers, how funny. Its called Insurance Fraud people. Try researching it!!

I believe that this has actually happened to me in Kennesaw, Georgia. I'm so glad I found this video because the insurance company was also State Farm.

I really wish I lived in Maryland, I wold have come to you guys, but I don't so that's a bummer. I have quite the story for you. I had hail damage work done on my 2015 Kia Forte hatchback through Travelers at a "preferred partner" concierge. They had an outside PDR guy come in for that. The problems started with communication about getting the work done, communicating the process. There were parts they knew they had to replace during the estimate process and did not order them until the vehicle actually got there. Two of them ended up being on back order from Korea.
The shop itself replaced the hood, roof skin and removed the fenders to blend them in. They did a fair job of blending in, but they returned the vehicle with paint dust nibs, dust inside, body panels not properly aligned with major gaps to include the fender, hood as well as the hatch area. Not mention it they scratched the A pillar with a tool, chipped paint off the wiper blade arm and at some point during removal, storage or post work detail the surfaces of my side mirrors were scratched. There's more... they also left body filler speckles in the hatch area, overspray on the windows.
Now, they did fix, but I have an appointment with an independent shop to have it fixed.
These companies are scummy and the shops themselves are even worse. Just like that lady at the end I went to a Service King shop. This was my first time having to have something fixed on a vehicle, big mistake! -
I will not be calling Jake from State Farm anytime soon.

Service King and Abra and Gerber and Car Star......they are all production shops that base there business off of steering and for the most part....not all of them are jokes. They are huge companies, just like kmart...walmart....etc. except they really are in bed with the insurance companies......for the most part you will get better work at a non chain bodyshop. Do your homework people! Why would the insurance company even tell you about a shop if you can go anywhere....they know just suggesting it people will go there.

Thank God someone is doing something about this. The scAry part of it all is how there are no "qualified technicians" in the industry anymore to work on cars properly because of the low pay and how the industry has cheated body shops. And for the person who commented about the fender I bet you work for the insurance company and have never set foot in a manufacturer. Training. Were they show you how used parts are not safe parts because you don't know how bad of an accident the previous vehicle had and can jeopardize. The safety of the consumer. It's sad when I have a customer trying to do the right thing and get her/ his vehicle repaired at the dealer and I have state farm us as and other insurance company's threatening clients that they will have to pay the tow bill and storage and rental fees if they left the vehicle. With me. Talk about stearing go's all to save a couple of bucks. If you ask me every time I see a customer get steered away I wish I can show them the amount of bull I see their shops do and also this video. What a bunch of thieves. INSURANCE CO. = FRAUDS

the insurance companies ruined the autobody business in last 20years up our way .the labor rate is 48$hr to run shop so in return employees pay is low so no one is left in autobody field that knows what there doing its just flooded with drunks drug attics and losers ,cannot put all blame on insurance customers are so dumbed down they would have there car shipped to china if there premium would go down 3 dollars .autobody field needs a union like other trades with apprentice program with guaranteed pay rate after becoming journeyman .what idiot would enter autobody field today your pay with 25 years exp is if your lucky 20 an hour before taxes and to top it off all estimating companies are owned by insurance company with made up labor times so you work 70 hrs get paid for forty.insurance direct repair shops are like modern day farms with body guys going to slaughter

Kinda confused on why it's bad to use used parts from a wrecking yard to repair your vehicle. If I put a red used fender on my blue car. How does it make it unsafe?
Shouldn't the body shop be held accountable for doing such a shitty job repairing the vehicle?
It's not the parts, used or new oem. It's the lack of skills the body shop technician didn't have. -
What's done in the dark will come to light.

So according to this idiot aftermarket parts are made the same as OEM.. oh really. Why then do aftermarket parts not line up properly? Do the aftermarket parts go through the same prep for ecoat as an OEM part? dont think so.
So a customer who knows NOTHING about their car and just drives has the right to choose their shop. Ok... do they provide customer education to the customer as to how their DRP(DONT REPAIR PROPERLY) programs work? Everyone of these insurance companies should be sued. -
When will they finally outlaw the DRP's . It is a conflict of interest for an insurance company to repair the vehicles themselves. Remember it's a numbers game to them. Here in NY GEiCO steers their customers from the second the claim is established . Why because they use the cheapest aftermarket parts and do the minimum repairs with a poor lifetime guarantee. Remember once they get your money they want to keep it!.
