Productivity | Information | History | View | Quality
We import 95% of our food requirements because there we are told that there is not enough land and water in Singapore for farming. But Ivy Singh-Lim has been a farmer in the Kranji Countryside for 14 years and wants to debunk this myth. Do you think The Gentle Warrior’s call to take a relook the farming industry is Good, Bad or Ugly? -- Warriors fight battles. The Gentle Warriors' battles are causes she believes in. To help people in trouble who cannot help themselves. To re-examine whether the old ways of doing things need to be changed. To question if the current ways are effective and working well or are irrelevant and need to be changed. In life, we have the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and we want you to vote accordingly what you think of each cause. Every one should be taught the basis of survival. Planting is one of them. Food is so essential that I feel too that the government should help the farmers to produce local affordable organic vegetables and fruits and encourage all to take a small step to self sufficiency. We should sow and reap what Mother nature has provided for us in our own land and not be so dependent on other countries.

Well said. We need strategies to counter known threads. 5 percent is way too low. Veg farming requires very little resources and we should be looking at 15 percent.
Hope things improve before SHTF. -
Thank you Ivy, thank you. <3 U are a Champion.

as was pointed out in the video, Singapore does have the land to make local farming feasible if they alter their priorities. All over the world, communities are moving toward producing more food locally. This is because consumers are finding it important to know their farmers and how they grow the food. Local food typically has much higher productivity, reduced shipping costs, uses fewer toxic imputs like synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Purchasing local food builds consumer confidence, strengthens communities and improves food security.

We dun have economy of scale , we might be able to grow some food but we won't be able to have enough to feed the country which means local produces will be costly as compared to imported ones , my apologies to you for differing
-
The truth is we do not have land , enough land to produce the yield that will push the prices down ,
-
Agrarian countries like Australia , new Zealand , Thailand or even Malaysia will never give up their farms , don't get paranoid for nothing , cost would be even higher and quality lower , yield too if we do our own farming , or research yes but production , guess not
-
Western countries got huge acres of land , we might not have that privilege
-
Yes food security such an important issue. The day Singaporeans have the option to eat local would be aceeeeee!
