We never read about it in history books. It takes away the black and white of history and puts us firmly in a shade of gray. One of the wealthiest men in the Midlands in the 1800s was a black man named William Ellison. He owned a cotton gin, plantation, and on the eve of the Civil War, 68 slaves

Let this be clear! Even though Blacks owned bought sold and treated black slaves bad or even worse does not remove white ppl from their responsibility in slavery, reconstruction, Jim Crow or All of that. Don't be dum and tell a black person, black ppl owned black ppl so it must have been ok, or My white grandparents where exempt. This does not help the problem only perpetuate it and remove yourself from responsibility of the privilege you have been given

It seems more and more that slavery benefitted blacks the most. Look up black female slave owners dare you. A lot of blacks were getting rich and evidence shows they were more scared of the racist in the north. Everybody knows it was after the Civil War, not before, that the government instituted actual laws on the books preventing blacks from owning business'. And thus began the race debate, because in the Antebellum race never existed.

What's the point of this video, to rub it in the faces of black people? This man didn't represent us. He was a victim and a product of trauma and mind control of slavery. He wanted to rise above the circumstance of his life even if it betrayed his own morals let alone his own people.

He was merely a victim of white supremacy. Wealth was defined as ownership of land and slaves. He was striving for what he knew as the "American dream". His only crime was ignorance and self-hate through the brainwashing and damage done. This is a classic example of PTSD (post traumatic slavery disorder)

Does anyone else find it suspicious they aired something about a BLACK slave owner? Do they air things about other WHITE slave owners occasionally, and point out some of THEIR brutalities? Sure, we know about slave owners, but not from the local news. So why?

I love how quick white southerners are to say "LOOK! SEE THIS ONE GUY? HE WAS BLACK AND HE OWNED SLAVES! SO, YOU KNOW..." Yeah nice, you found ONE story that doesn't make your ancestors look as bad.
The institution of slavery in the south was based entirely on the concept that black people were inferior to white people. This doesn't change anything. Just means that guy was too caught up in the system and knew how much money he could make.
I just don't understand why there's such a rush to say "Black people had slaves!" Or "black people sold black people into slavery!" Or "there were white slaves!" What the hell is so wrong with acknowledging how evil and awful slavery was for black people? No one's asking you to feel guilty. Just stop being defensive and admit it was really terrible.
