Saturday we went to River Bend Farm in Uxbridge Massachusetts for a nature walk. I love walking thru the trails in the field. We heard a rattling sound,,,There are not any rattlesnakes where I live... I then realized that it was a Black Racer shaking its tail in the dry leaves... which made it sound like a rattle. I don't think the Snake was to happy we found him! I wish I got a video clip of the Snake slithered away. He was a good 6' Long! What a special treat. I'm glad I came across this video!!! My boyfriend and I were hiking in Wilburn, AR this past weekend and came across a snake doing this. Neither of us know jack squat about snakes, so I at least was startled upon hearing the rattle of the leaves! Thank you for posting this!

Are these types of snakes poisonous? I'm not a huge snake fan I rather give them their space. This was awesome that you was able to capture this video.

Very cool. & Very scary.
Knowing nothing about snakes, I would have interpreted that tail shaking as a distraction measure because he was about to attack. I'm glad you weren't frightened off and you were able to film this for the rest of us to see. -

Beautiful...don't see the racers very often, mostly garters and ring necked snakes. Never heard the rattle before...tricky wee guy:)

We had a nice treat on Saturday while on a Nature Walk. We heard a Rattling sound,,,, There was a large Black Racer Snake in the leaf litter shaking its tail into the leaf litter. In all my years of taking nature walks I have never heard this sound. We do not have Rattlesnakes in my area. I have seen plenty of Black Racers. I get so excited when I see a snake!! Happy Spring!
