Ben Falk's NOFA Vermont 2013 conference talk on regenerating soil, water and human health while addressing some of the primary resiliency challenges of the 21st century. Apologies for the talk being stopped by the host mid-talk- fire code enforcers came in and booted out half the room. See more at www.wholesystemsdesign.com.

Black locust is the bane of my existence. My next door neighbor had two dropping thousands of seeds a year into my 1/3 acre food forest. He finally got rid of them but I still find seedling everywhere. Maybe if you have a very large property, they may be a good idea but in a small one, it's better to avoid them. Also trying to get rid of one that is well rooted (in a very bad location like right next to my house (3), right next a fence, right in the middle of the annual vegetable garden, etc) is very difficult.

what was the thing about sunflower seeds @44.15?

Ben- First, thank you for posting so much knowledge on homesteading. I am trying to learn all I can, before I too become a steward of the land. I find your videos very informative but I am questioning your application. Mass Wasting is a big problem where I live and I fear that if I slow the water on a slope, I might be slowly causing a future land slide. I am a geology major and I know first hand that adding water to a slope can be potentially very dangerous. Have you had/observed any problems like this?

Fantastic lecture, and the photography is unbelievably beautiful.
I'm learning how to permaculture my garden to make it self sufficient; or I'm learning to become self-sufficient by making a permaculture garden. Truly a labor of love ... for both me and my garden. -
Can you please clarify what you mean by "on contour" it looks to me like you are following the curve in the slope, but I want to make sure I understand. I've heard this in other permaculture content, but I don't really understand it.

very informative presentation! great design of swales and ponds to make best use of fertigation =]

Watching you chaps split all those logs and break permaculture rules made me subtitle an interesting French agroforestry clip for your benefit. Click on my screen name and browse for THE GREEN MAN

Aren't various state governments trying to outlaw the burning of wood with which to heat your home??

I mean really, really...great video

Great video. Thanks

I hiked an area with blue shale stone. There was no organic matter in the soil. Soil looked like blue gravel. Black locust, juniper and native grasses were taking over. Black locust is one tough tree.

Ben, What type of dog do you have? They look a little larger than a Golden Retriever, Is that right?
