This is an educational parody of the Thrift Shop music video by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. It was created by students ages 12 & 13 as part of Maui Huliau Foundation's Huliau Environmental Filmmaking Club. MHF worked with four students to write the lyrics which focus on Maui's extreme dependence on imported food and goods. The lyrics the students wrote were rapped by Brendan O'Colmain and recorded in Maui Wave Studio. Students from the program then filmed and edited the film at various locations on Maui. Funding for this film came from CDF Engineering and CDF Solar. Single-use plastic is hella weak Somethin' we're missin', let's do some simple addition 5,000 miles for a plastic fork, that you use for 2 minutes-ssss I call that a waste of fuel and money-yyy I call that a throw away society Your shoes hella dope But havin' 50 pairs of the same one in your closet is a hella don't Peep gang, come take a look through my telescope If buyin' happiness is your plan, then you hella won't Then you hella won't. Look in our shopping bags All our stuff comes on barges I, I, I'm hunting, for a new solution This can't last forever It's time to buy local You'll feel incredible When you buy my vegetables from my farm stand down the road It's time to simplify Won't know 'til you try We bought all our clothes, from that thrift shop down the road. Look in our shopping bags All our stuff comes on barges I, I, I'm hunting, for a new solution This can't last forever
