In this episode we are building a 7 layer automatic slime farm. This is the first large scale mob farm I am building on this server and it turned out pretty cool :) Link to slime chunk finder website: http://chunkbase.com/apps/slime-finder ----- Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ftog_thorgal Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/ftog_thorgal ----- My Playlists: Minecraft Back2Basics Server Play: http://goo.gl/pzjPYS Hermitcraft Modsauce Server Play: http://goo.gl/vTH7ib FTB Clouds of Darkness Let's Play: http://goo.gl/ecWSZA FTB Crafting Paradise Let's Play: http://goo.gl/0fIUIF Creativerse Let's Play: http://goo.gl/t0ldBJ ----- Fellow ftog.net YouTubers renovate: http://goo.gl/xmvrtd Duranis: http://goo.gl/jXsFSF ----- Music by: "Easy Lemon (30 second)" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Where do you afk in this farm? I made one on a server but im just having difficulty because I dont know where to afk. I've read online that slimes dont spawn if a player is within 24 blocks from them and that they despawn if there is no player within 32 blocks. Please help, this is the ONLY problem im having and it'd be great if you could help

Man, you are making the videos unnecesarily long. I came here for information, not to watch your nice pickaxe...

@UGK AmateurAbys I can't reply to your comment because you don't allow it in your Google+ profile, but in order to get the seed you simply type /seed in the Minecraft chat.
-
How do you get the seed for the server
-
How long and wide is it??

I am just starting out my Minecraft journey, and I decided to build a Slime Farm as my first major project. After watching many videos on the topic, I can say that yours gives the best explanation of the process. I get tired of watching tutorials in creative/test worlds. They are often unrealistic because they skip over many of the details that you have to follow in survival mode. Well done! As for my farm, I am getting better and better spawns after doing quite a bit of exploring in nearby caves that I have discovered. I am still having to kill the spawns by hand because I have not been able to get any cactus because I am nowhere near a desert on my map. I hope to journey out to one that I scouted on a seed map soon. You are entirely right about the cave lighting though. I initially got almost no spawns, and I have seen an increase in spawn rates each time I was able to go light up some surrounding caves. Torches and Jack-o-lanterns 4tw!

Which height is the first spawning platform?
(Ask me on G+ if you cannot reply to me) -
Love this video dude, but I didnt understand how you find slime chunks in servers. I think you forgot the link too. If you could explain, that'll be great!
-
I think the biggest thing to affect spawn rates is cave lighting. If another mob CAN spawn, it probably WILL, as others mobs have a higher probability TO spawn. Loving this series :)

I haven't played vanilla since april or so, so the following might have changed - and also for this reason, this might be my first and last comment on your vanilla stuff;):
- slimes, in contrast to other unnamed mobs, will never will despawn if you're no more than 128 blocks away. so there shouldn't be a difference when you are on the surface
- slimes (as you could see) have a much lower spawn rate than other mobs
- there was an increased spawn rate depending on the moon phase, though I don't know any more if this was only for slimes spawning in higher level of swamp biomes
- for the spawning height, only the lowest block is taken into account
- I have never seen this before, but if I'm not totally wrong, you could even increase the spawn rate slightly by making the "gap" between the 1st layer above each spawn area and the surrounding walls 2 or even 3 blocks more wide. You would end up having a 1 block high and 2 blocks deep gap on each side of the surrounding walls, and this exactly one layer higher than the spawning platforms. This is the same principle of maximizing airblocks as used when building a witch farm, but less effective, as the relation from actual spawn points to air blocks for the spawning algorithm to start is better here, and you already have 3 wide air blocks on each side of the platforms.
- especially as this is in the spawn chunks, I would try to minimize the amount of lag inducing hoppers used and switch to a design with water channels like King Happy used in his design here: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/ajmsv0pjtud7e/Files
- to further reduce lag, and is not much effort, I would also put furnaces above those hoppers that only transport and not actually collect items.
- In case you don't know king happy (imho besides panda and jl2579, he rocked vanilla mc, but his channel was closed), the other downloads are also worth taking a look at. -
Nice to see you using your building skills in a Vanilla setting ftog. So much iron for those hoppers though, you'll have to look at an iron farm sometime - Muto ;)
