You are welcome to http://yourdonationcounts.jdrftype1.com Gaithersburg is located in the heart of Montgomery County and is home to many high-tech headquarters. Established in 1878, Gaithersburg has grown from an agrarian community to an award-winning neo-traditional urban city. Neighboring Germantown is one of the county’s fasted growing communities, with an extensive number of new homes, communities, schools and commercial centers. One thing that you will notice about Gaithersburg is that there is a good-sized population of people who are young, single, educated, and upwardly-mobile career starters. Many singles consider Gaithersburg a good place to live without being in a really big city, with opportunities for friendships and fun with others like themselves. One downside of living in Gaithersburg, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 32.01 minutes every day commuting to work. However, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it. While people with T1D rely on insulin therapy to control their blood sugar, insulin is not a cure nor does it prevent the possibility of the disease’s serious side effects. Even with intensive disease management, a significant portion of their day is still spent with high or low blood-sugar levels, placing people with T1D at risk for devastating complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and amputation. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The industries in this sector include physician's offices, hospitals, medical laboratories, nursing homes, and youth and family service centers. JDRF is the only organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Our strategies include: Artificial Pancreas Systems Artificial pancreas systems will eliminate blood glucose testing and carb counting by totally automating insulin dosing, initially preventing dangerous low blood sugars and eventually ensuring ideal glucose control. Complications JDRF’s complications research is leading to therapies to treat and even reverse some of the debilitating, costly, and life-threatening complications caused by T1D. Encapsulation JDRF’s encapsulation research will restore insulin independence for 18 months to two years by implanting newly created beta cells into a protective capsule, which eliminates the need for toxic immune suppression therapies.
