The Alice In Wonderland statue in Central Park is one of the most fun (and free) places to see and things to do in New York City. It's a huge attraction for kids who are permitted to climb on the larger-than-life sculpture. The statue of Alice is surrounded by some of her storybook friends came toCentral Park in 1959. Of course, the statue was inspired Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice in Wonderland," A plaque in front of the statue says Delacorte dedicated it as a tribute to his late wife, Margarita, who read Alice to their children. According to the official website for the statue, Alice was created by the Spanish-born American sculptor José de Creeft. It features Alice holding court from her perch on the mushroom. The host of the story's tea party is the Mad Hatter, a caricature of George Delacorte. The White Rabbit is depicted holding his pocket watch, and a timid dormouse nibbles a treat at Alice's feet. The sculpture sits at the nrthern end of the small lake known as Conservatory water. The best entrance for families to enter Central Park to view the statue is 72nd St. at Fifth Ave. See http://bestnewyorkvideos.com for more videos about living in New York City, NYC tourist attractions and other free things to do and fun places to go in New York.
