Check our Webpage http://t1dnone.jdrftype1.com JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. So a few years ago, we changed our name to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D’s causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure. Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Diabetes can affect how you feel each day. George Hincapie, a famous cyclist, every year organizes Hincapie Gran Fondo in JDRF’s name. Hincapie Gran Fondo is a nice way to escape from daily problems and to forget about diseases. During the ride some great professionals and Huncapie’s friends join the ride. All JDRF Riders are invited to exclusive Gran Fondo after party. Everybody talk about their experience they had during the ride. Gran Fondo is all about challenging yourselves. It’s not a race – everyone has his different goals. There is no pressure to perform – the only pressure your put on yourself. The after party is a great way to celebrate what they have achieved during the day. Diabetes is the name given to disorders in which the body has trouble regulating its blood glucose or blood sugar levels. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person’s body still produces insulin but is unable to use it effectively. JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
