The Internet has provided for an explosion of online retailers in the coral market. And one of the best is right here in my back yard, Austin Aqua Farms. In this episode of Mr. Saltwater Tank TV, I tour Austin Aqua Farms and get to see what makes this place so special. Did I mention I happened to walk out of there w/out breaking out my mastercard?

Can this corals be planted in the wild?
-
Having farm in your name is misleading.
-
Hey Mark,
Is there a reason that this company doesn't have sand in the tanks but instead uses egg crate?
Thanks!

I did a review of Austin Aqua farms on my page. I've ordered from them a few times.

Who is the builder of those tanks ?
-
nice baby...sooo sweet

Mark,
Can you tell me why my Finger Coral will not stand up straight in my tank? I bought it three days ago and it just sits their limp. -
I've purchased coral from AAF through Ebay. Always been very healthy, reasonably priced corals that arrived. They seem to do a great job and keep the prices fair. Also very good about answering questions quickly.
-
The wild colonies are brought in and frags are taken from them to grow other colonies. The wild mother colonies are retained in order to regrow them, then re-frag them.
-
Just saying I saw more giant wild colonies than frags.
-
also want to switch from MH to LED
-
i wanna learn more about corals, i got great growth on my sps but low growth on my LPS
-
I ship some coral, I buy some from wholesalers who both grow and ship, and some corals like SPS, acans and chalice, I buy once and sell frags as they grow. I do what I am able to sustainably. I think of myself as part farmer. I don't thinks it's wrong or misleading for them to refer to themselves as they do. Would the term "Part-Farmer" make you happy or just be confusing. No one wants sellers to stop carrying unfragable corals, right?
-
In what way? This place grows out a portion of their coral to frag them and then grow them out again.
-
Is the title "farm" misleading?
-
Didn't notice many SPS. Soon the refugium fad will be exposed for what it is. Kinda hard to grow many SPS in high nutrient system. Kinda hard to grow macro in a low nutrient system. I have had many fuges but have seen the light. I realize it is your business selling macros and LPS, but you have to see the connection. Nice corals, will stop in if ever in town.

This isn't a "an acquculture farm." The owner clearly states: "we get in some of the best Aussie acans." Cutting up corals from the wide is not sustainable farming.
